Didier Deschamps is well on his way to a thirteenth and then a fourteenth year on the bench of the French team.

Even though the Blues reached the semi-finals of
Euro 2024the objective set for Didier Deschamps before the competition, the latter has not been spared from criticism. Indeed, the game played by the Blues has not pleaded in his favor. In addition, it is now twelve years that “DD” has occupied the position of national selector.

The president of the French Football Federation has nevertheless confirmed that
Deschamps was going to continue his (very long) mission. “I had given Didier a little rest after the Euro. We met, we had a one-on-one discussion, first to take stock of the Euro and then to check his motivation and dynamism for the future with a view to the next objective which will be the 2026 World Cup.”explained Philippe Diallo during an interview given to the JDD which will be published on Sunday.

Deschamps, 14 years as coach of the Blues

“I was completely reassured from this point of view and I asked him in front of the executive committee to come and express his desire to continue his mission brilliantly at the head of the French team. So he will be on the bench in September against Italy and Belgium.”continues the man who was appointed interim head of the FFF after the withdrawal of Noël Le Graët.

Didier Deschamps’ contract with the 3F therefore runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. This will mark fourteen years since the 1998 world champion held the position of French coach.
