The French women’s football team confirmed its place in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games this Wednesday evening by dominating New Zealand (2-1).

After a narrow victory over Colombia (3-2) and a terrible defeat against Canada (1-2), the Blues needed at least one point to get out of their group and see the Olympic final phase. Mission accomplished against a New Zealand team who were cheerfully dominated.

In Lyon, despite the absence of their captain Wendie Renard, Hervé Renard’s players were able to rely on a double from Marie-Antoinette Katoto to make the difference, with assists from Sandy Baltimore (22e) and Sakina Karchaoui (49e).

The equalizer was acquired for a time by Kate Taylor for the Oceanians (42e) did nothing; the French selection will play the quarter-finals of its Olympic tournament, Saturday in Nantes against Brazil.
