Optimism is high in the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain. As we wrote a few days ago, the arrival of João Neves is considered to be soon acquired and the first preparations to welcome him during the week have been launched. But the hours pass and the green light has not yet been given on the side of Benfica Lisbon.
As reported A Bolaa board meeting of the Portuguese club took place yesterday evening, and the case of the 19-year-old midfielder was discussed. It has already been decided not to accept PSG’s offer as currently presented, namely €60 million + €10 million in bonuses. Benfica believe they have made an effort by agreeing to negotiate under the player’s release clause, understanding that the latter would not extend his contract and was keen to sign for PSG.

But the Portuguese leaders, and in particular its president Rui Costa, are now waiting for a gesture from the Parisian club. However, the Portuguese newspaper assures that “small steps have still been taken” and “Even among pessimists, there is a conviction that everything will be resolved by the end of the week.”.
Barely back in the Lisbon squad after his participation in Euro 2024 with Portugal, João Neves is not expected to take part in his team’s next friendly match against Fulham on Friday. PSG and Benfica certainly still have a few points of detail to negotiate, in terms of bonuses, but perhaps also on players who could make the opposite trip…
