Henry and the tricolor baraka

Thierry Henry’s Les Bleus got the better of Guinea this Saturday in their second Olympic group match (1-0). Not without suffering.

Three days after their fine victory over the United States, despite a certain delay in getting going (3-0), the French internationals led by Thierry Henry were able to confirm against Guinea, this Saturday in Nice, as part of the second day of the 2024 Olympic tournament.

However, it was on the smallest of margins (1-0) that the Blues made the difference, relying on a late goal from Kiliann Sildillia, the right-back scoring with a header from an inspired cross from the inevitable Michael Olise (1-0, 75e).

Almost qualified but…

Fortunately enough to secure the three points of the win, after having kept a low profile for a long time – notably in a first act marked by two Guinean goals invalidated for offside after recourse to video assistance (41e45e+2).

With two wins in as many outings, the Blues are well on their way to reaching the quarter-finals but do not yet have their ticket in their pocket. So watch out for New Zealand, in three days in Marseille, and a possible heavy defeat combined with a spectacular result also for the USA against Guinea. Improbable, certainly, but not impossible.
