It was a grandiose spectacle that took place before our eyes on Friday evening in Paris. Despite the rain, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games offered (tele)viewers a fantastic show, with the intervention of artists such as Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura and Céline Dion, who concluded the evening in apotheosis. An evening also punctuated by the last torch relays.
After Zinedine Zidane at the Trocadéro, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Nadia Comaneci and Carl Lewis brought the flame by boat to the Tuileries. Where Amélie Mauresmo, Tony Parker, David Douillet and some of the greatest French sportsmen in history passed it on, before entrusting it to the last two bearers, Marie-José Pérec and Teddy Riner, who were responsible for lighting the Olympic cauldron.
A great moment appreciated by Charles Biétry who, on X (formerly Twitter), shared his emotion through a very touching message. “My first opening ceremony was in Mexico in 1986. My last one was in Paris 56 years later. It was the most beautiful…”posted the former director of the sports department of Canal+, aged 80 and suffering from Charcot’s disease.
