The Paris 2024 Olympics continue to draw criticism following the chaos that erupted during the match between Argentina and Morocco.

The start of the men’s Olympic football tournament was marked by a heated controversy this Wednesday during the Argentina-Morocco match (1-2).

The match was interrupted for nearly two hours after Moroccan supporters threw firecrackers at the Argentinians and invaded the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium following Cristian Medina’s equaliser. A goal disallowed for offside after consulting the VAR.

“Things like this shouldn’t normally happen”

Despite an interminable wait, the 22 players finally resumed the match. But the atmosphere was far from festive, provoking many reactions, including that of Moroccan international Bilal El Khannouss. The versatile KRC Genk midfielder clearly castigated the course of events.

“Things like this shouldn’t happen normally. Already 15 minutes of added time, it was really incredible. We didn’t feel like the wait had lasted almost two hours, but it was long. We were told that we had to wait for the referee’s decision, also that of the police, that we were going to stop the match and then resume it while watching the video assistance. We remained calm,” he confided to
The Team.
