The Marseille club no longer has a single French international in its squad.

Enter Jonathan Clauss and Olympique de Marseille are now ancient history. According to The Parisianthe right-back of the French team went to Nice this Thursday to undergo his medical examination with the Aiglons. The 31-year-old defender will sign a two-year contract plus an optional year in favor of the Côte d’Azur club.

The transaction amount should be five million euros, including bonuses. The former Racing Club de Lens player will thus be reunited with Franck Haise, the coach under whose direction he was when he played for the Sang et Or. At the beginning of June, after the victory (3-0) of the Blues against Luxembourg in a preparation match for Euro 2024, Jonathan Clauss already clearly opened the door to a departure from OM.

Clauss in turmoil at OM

Between injuries, controversies and burglaries, the Strasbourg native has had eventful weeks during the 2023-2024 season. Criticized by Mehdi Benatia, just before the Ligue 1 match against Stade Brestois, in February, the right-back was not spared either by Pablo Longoria. The French international was notably criticized for a premature exit due to (fake) injury against Monaco (2-2, January 27).

Having arrived in Marseille in the summer of 2022, Clauss will have played 85 matches in Olympique colours, in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing 25 assists.
