Interrupted before the end, the Argentina-Morocco match must still go to its conclusion. The IOC will decide.

The first match of the Olympic football tournament had a rather unusual scenario this Wednesday. The duel between Argentina and Morocco did not go to the end, because the players from both camps went to the locker room before the referee even blew the final whistle.

Argentina’s Short Joy

Both teams wrongly thought that the man in black had blown the final whistle. However, the whistle only signalled an offside position for Argentina’s equaliser. There was therefore no reason to leave the pitch.

The imbroglio lasted for a while and the IOC ordered that the rest of the match go to the end. More than two hours after leaving the playing area, the two teams returned to the Saint-Etienne stadium to finish what was left of the match. The score did not change after that and Morocco’s 2-1 victory was confirmed.
