Ronald Koeman still has not digested his divorce from FC Barcelona. Arriving in place of Quique Setien in the summer of 2020, the Dutchman’s adventure in the shoes of a coach in Catalonia only lasted a few months after a series of poor results. Now in charge of the Netherlands, the former Barça player compared his experience on the Blaugrana bench to that of Xavi, recently dismissed by his management. As such, the Batavian believes he did not receive the same support at the time as the former Spanish international.

“I didn’t receive the same support from the president as Xavi. At the time I was made redundant and we were nine points behind Madrid. Today, they are at ten points. To succeed, you must have the support of the president… Barça is my club. I had a great time there as a player, I have friends in the city, and coaching the team was one of my life’s dreams. “It makes things harder and more stressful.”Ronald Koeman said in a press conference a few days after having tackled FC Barcelona following the withdrawal of Frenkie de Jong for Euro 2024.
