At Bayern Munich for nine years now, Joshua Kimmich is a loyal fan of the Bavarian club. The midfielder has won everything with the Rekordmeister, yet his attachment to the club has disintegrated since the pandemic period. In an interview given for the documentary “Joshua Kimmich – Leader and Driver”, published by ZDFJoshua Kimmich spoke about the disagreements he had with his club which led him to a certain disenchantment with the institution.
When he decided not to be vaccinated, the midfielder received pressure from those around him. “It was a really brutal time. A friend told me that fewer people would have died if I had gotten vaccinated. It’s brutal if you don’t have a family, you can break up, of course (…)”he first confided before asserting that the club had not supported him. “There haven’t been many scandals around me. That was the first slowdown. That’s when I noticed the club’s reaction and so I was disappointed and hurt (…) What do you do now? Do you get vaccinated and then can play football again? Or do the worries persist and you stay at home for weeks and months? In the end, I got vaccinated”. Since that moment, something was destroyed between him and the club. “The feeling of trust I previously had in the club has of course been destroyed”he concluded on this episode.
