There is already panic among the Magpies. While the summer transfer window has not yet officially opened its doors across the Channel, the last seventh in the Premier League, who will not participate in any European competition next season, finds himself in a context that is worrying to say the least. As a reminder, the English football elite have been implementing their own financial rules for several years, called “Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR)”. The idea is simple: clubs cannot spend more than they earn and have an authorized deficit, over a three-year period, of around 123 million euros. And the residents of St James’ Park find themselves, as such, in the eye of the storm.

Several departures to fear…

Thursday evening, Sky Sports announced, in fact, that six Premier League clubs were now under threat of sanction: Chelsea, Aston Villa, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, back in the elite a year after having left it, and therefore Newcastle. Despite the arrival of the Saudis through the Public Investment Fund (PIF) at the head of the club, the Geordies will therefore have to quickly adjust the sights while Everton recently saw ten points withdrawn (a sanction ultimately reduced to six units in February) and that Nottingham Forest, for their part, suffered a four-point loss. From then on and to avoid such consequences, the team led by Eddie Howe finds itself forced to make one, or even several, big sales by the end of the month to remain within the limits of financial fair play.

In this context, The Telegraph indicates, this Saturday, that the Toon Army could sell the young Yankuba Minteh (19 years old). Recruited for 8 million euros from Odense in July 2023, the Magpies right winger is preparing to make his return to the North East of England after a successful loan from Feyenoord (11 goals and 6 assists in 37 matches in all competitions). An impressive performance which did not fail to seduce Arne Slot, his former coach, now on the Liverpool bench after the departure of Jürgen Klopp. According to the English media, the 45-year-old Batavian technician would like to attract the Gambian nugget to Anfield. An operation which could then bring in no less than 40 million pounds sterling for the Magpies, or around 47 million euros.

It’s also blocking the direction of arrivals…

If such a deal would offer a real breath of fresh air to Newcastle, under financial pressure, it is however not the only departure envisaged this summer. Indeed, Alexander Isak, tracked by Arsenal in recent months, and Anthony Gordon are also expected to leave. Worse still, the Magpies could be forced to give up Bruno Guimaraes, regularly cited on the side of PSG or even Barça. “My future ? I have a contract with Newcastle and I’m very happy. I don’t know what will happen with financial fair play, but I can say that I am very happy”declared the Brazilian on the microphone of TNT Sportswho sees his contract run until June 2028. Courted by numerous European teams and appearing among the highest market values in his position, the 26-year-old midfielder would logically allow Newcastle to escape a sanction from the Premier League but his departure would considerably weaken the collective of the team founded in 1892.

Threatened in the direction of departures, the Magpies are also experiencing numerous difficulties concerning the first tracks mentioned in the direction of arrivals. Long followed by the management of NUFC, Tosin Adarabioyo (26 years old) finally decided to settle down in London where he signed up for Chelsea. The Blues could, at the same time, get ahead of Newcastle in the case leading to Giorgi Mamardashvili (23 years old), today in the colors of Valencia. Feeling the tide turning, the upper echelons of the Toons have also made a first offer of 15 million pounds sterling (around €18 million) for James Trafford, young goalkeeper from Burnley. A proposal however refused by the Clarets according to the latest information from Sky Sports. Enough to confirm, a little more, the difficulties currently encountered by the quadruple champion of England.
