For many years, Bayern Munich has liked to rely on French players. Jean-Pierre Papin, Bixente Lizarazu, Willy Sagnol, Valérien Ismaël, Franck Ribéry and even Benjamin Pavard, Bavaria has often done well for the majority of them. In the current squad, Dayot Upamecano, Kingsley Coman, Sacha Boey and Mathys Tel maintain this tricolor tradition, but one of them could pay the price for the new project which will be put in place following the arrival of Vincent Kompany as coach.

The central defense will be a construction site and one player could be sacrificed, it is Dayot Upamecano. In any case, this is what is announced Bild in its columns this Monday. The German media explains that Matthijs de Ligt is considered an essential element of the defense and that Kim-min Jae and Eric Dier remain in the Rekordmeister’s plans for next season. Another player is also close to strengthening this sector, it is Jonathan Tah. German champion with Bayer Leverkusen, he has an agreement in principle with the Bavarians even if the Werkself will have to be convinced.

The Premier League on the lookout

An arrival in defense which could amount to 40 million euros while the name of Oumar Solet (Red Bull Salzburg) is also being considered internally as we revealed to you. Potentially pushed to fifth place in the hierarchy following his complicated end to the season spent in a replacement role, Dayot Upamecano will not be retained in the event of an interesting offer from Bayern Munich. Arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021 for 42.5 million euros, the French central defender would therefore be the player sacrificed in this sector.

His performances would have been considered insufficient for Bayern Munich internally and his errors at crucial moments of the season did not speak for him. The German media also reports strong interest in him in the Premier League like Chelsea. At 25 years old and with Euro 2024 in his sights with France, Dayot Upamecano is at the bottom of the wave at Bayern Munich where his contract ends in June 2026.
