Bernardo Silva will be one of the main movers and shakers of the next summer transfer window. This summer, the Portuguese international could well pack his bags, after several summers already marked by rumors of departure, with clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona as the main suitors. In recent weeks, the trend has been rather favorable to the Catalans, since it is at Camp Nou that the Lusitanian would like to continue his career.
However, the disastrous financial situation of the Catalan team, not helped by the financial fair play of La Liga moreover, makes the arrival of the player particularly complicated. Even though his clause of 50 million pounds – around 58 million euros – is rather affordable and low for a player of this quality, it is still too much for the Catalans.
A hell of a deal for Barça
Or at least it was too much. Indeed, according to Catalan public television TV3, Bernardo Silva managed to negotiate a special Barça clause during his last extension at City. A line in his contract which stipulates that the Barcelonans can pay the amount of this release clause in 3 installments of 19 million euros per season. Which would make a transfer of the player to Catalonia much more realistic and feasible, whereas normally, the release clauses must be paid at once.
Barça could not have put almost 60 million euros in cash on the table, but can on the other hand assume this transfer by paying it over three seasons. PSG will not have this advantage. Still according to the Catalan media, management must now decide whether to take action or not, and we imagine that Hansi Flick, new Barcelona coach, will also have his say. To be continued…
