Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reportedly pushed for Vincent Kompany to be appointed as Bayern Munich manager.
The former general manager of Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has just revealed that Pep Guardiola personally intervened to have Vincent Kompany appointed as coach of the Bavarian team.
Guardiola’s former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany was named Bayern manager on Wednesday. Having enjoyed a successful stint at the head of this club, the Catalan technician would have weighed in with all his weight so that the Belgian was chosen to succeed Thomas Tuchel.
“Guardiola gave Bayern a helping hand”
“Our sporting director chose Kompany, there are still details to be worked out, but he will arrive. We spoke about him with Guardiola and he said a lot of good things about him. Pep gave us a helping hand”Rummenigge told Sky Germany.
The double Ballon d’Or winner also judges that Bayern’s season which has just ended is not so bad. “Bayern, after eleven consecutive league triumphs, failed to win this year, the domestic season was not very good, we finished third. In the Champions League, however, we reached the semi-final and were eliminated in a somewhat unfortunate manner against Real Madrid: that’s a shame, an all-German final against Borussia Dortmund would have been interesting.
