According to Bar Canaletes, Xavi learned of his dismissal from Barça through Flick’s agent.
On Wednesday, the departure of Xavi Hernandez from his position as head coach of FC Barcelona was made official. He was immediately replaced by Hansi Flick, whose arrival had been anticipated for a few weeks, although Xavi’s dismissal at the end of the season was only confirmed on Friday.
Rumors of Xavi’s imminent dismissal emerged just before Barcelona’s trip to Almeria two weeks ago. The 44-year-old knew nothing about the situation, except that he followed the news in the media. Joan Laporta chose not to talk to him about it, while working on his replacement in the shadows.
Barça not classy with Xavi
According to Bar Canaletes, Xavi directly called Pini Zahavi, Flick’s agent and close friend of Laporta, when he learned that the FC Barcelona president would not meet him. Zahavi all but confirmed to Xavi that he was going to be fired.
FC Barcelona and Laporta were criticized by fans last week for the way they treated Xavi, a club legend at that. The radio silence between the two men was not to the liking of many observers, especially since Laporta had begged Xavi to stay at the helm of the club a few weeks previously.
