This is the end of a long suspense lasting several months. After many and many refusals (Xabi Alonso, Tuchel, Nagelsmann, Rangnick to name a few), Bayern Munich finally obtained a “yes” from a coach. As expected for several days now, Vincent Kompany accepted the Bavarian offer and joined one of the biggest clubs in Europe after 4 years of experience on the sidelines only. His mission will be to improve the German club which has been struggling for results for two years now. The announcement is now official.

“FC Bayern has recruited Vincent Kompany as their new coach. The 38-year-old Belgian has signed until June 30, 2027. He most recently worked for English Premier League club FC Burnley.announces the press release from the recent 3rd in the Bundesliga and unfortunate semi-finalist against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Bayern is betting on youth

This is the challenge for the young (38 year old) Belgian technician. Without much experience at the very highest level on the bench, he will have to find the right formula to be insightful in his tactical choices, while being accepted by a locker room renowned for being very difficult to manage. The dinosaurs that are Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich run rain or shine, and have often got the better of their coaches (Julian Nagelsmann in the lead). A fine connoisseur of the German championship having worn the colors of Hamburg between 2006 and 2008, the native of Uccle has the merit of mastering the language of Goethe and therefore has arguments to put forward.

The bet is risky but will be interesting to follow. Captain of Manchester City for years, Kompany retired from playing only in 2020, after a final stint at Anderlecht. Having become coach of his training club, the former central defender convinced Burnley to offer him a chance in the Championship. Thanks to a fantastic series of invincibility between November 2022 and April 2023, the Belgian managed to win the championship and put the Clarets back in the Premier League, which he will not be able to save this season, finishing the year in 19th place .
