While Real Madrid prepares to play a new Champions League final with the objective of winning its 15th big-eared cup in its history, the Spanish press has taken up another issue in recent hours more linked to transfer window than the decisive match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening at Wembley. It’s an open secret but the Merengues will undergo some changes to their squad in the coming months with notable departures like that of Toni Kroos but especially the long-awaited historic arrival of Kylian Mbappé. And while the majority of players including Rodrygo have already mentioned their excitement about the possibility of playing with the French international, the Brazilian is often seen as the big loser from this signing, with a potential loss of minutes and responsibilities. With so many stars and great players, managing the upcoming rotation can be a bit complicated with so many offensive weapons (Vinicius, Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappé, Arda Güler, Endrick, etc.)
“We won La Liga because there are no egos here. Vini? Jude ? Rodrygo? no ego. And the seniors too. Toni Kroos, Carvajal, Nacho, Modric. I don’t know what will happen in the future but there is no jealousy between the young people. Humility is important. You have to have that to succeed here.”, Carlo Ancelotti recently said. Managing great players absolutely does not scare the Italian coach who seems to have found the solution to lead this team while avoiding any internal clashes. The upcoming arrival of a certain Kylian Mbappé should therefore not change the situation for Ancelotti’s staff. But beyond the character aspect in this long list of football stars, another problem could surface and it is more athletic. How can we find enough minutes for all these players? What if a player suffered collateral damage? Rodrygo’s name sometimes came up insistently when there was mention of a possible departure by domino effect. With the Brazilian’s recent strange statements, this theory is gaining momentum in Spain.
A future far from Madrid?
Chain DAZN interviewed Rodrygo and the Brazilian left some suspense about his future at Real Madrid and even, at one point, spoke about his experience in Spain using the past tense – as if he was already considering a move away from the Casa White: “Well… Anything can happen. I have a contract here but… the years I spent here were a pleasure for me. Like I said, I still want to be at this club but let’s see what happens. Everything is possible”, declared the native of Osasco who created quite a blank in his interview. The player’s entourage, for their part, immediately reacted to all the rumors about Rodrygo’s departure from Real Madrid. They did this to deny that the player was considering leaving the club and that in the famous interview with DAZN, the Brazilian international had expressed himself poorly. What Rodrygo won’t miss are the offers. Several English clubs are interested with Liverpool at the top of the list. Real Madrid, for its part, is not currently considering the departure of the Brazilian.
The 23-year-old Brazilian player, under contract until 2028, has always denied wanting to leave… until now. This player’s entourage insists that Rodrygo is in no way considering leaving the white club and that his only intention was to stay at Santiago-Bernabeu to continue making history. The 23-year-old was even forced to speak out to put out the burning blaze: “Today a very annoying situation occurred, where one of my interviews was completely taken out of context. To be very direct, I am very happy at Real Madrid, I live a dream every day and it never crosses my mind to leave the club of my life. Now we continue to make history”. Pressure surge or simple communication error? The future will tell us, but first, it’s time for the Champions League final.
