Borussia Dortmund is preparing for the Champions League final. In three days, BVB will play the third C1 final in its history at Wembley, which constitutes a significant financial windfall. The German club is also taking care of its finances thanks to a new sponsor. They announced a new partnership with Rheinmetall this morning. Although the company is local, it greatly displeases supporters.
Rheinmetall is not a company like any other. It is an arms manufacturer, notably producing shells and tank equipment. The spokesperson for Unsere Kurve (main supporters’ organization), Thomas Kessen, is unhappy with this new sponsor. “We would take responsibility with such an agreement”he told Sky Sport. The German Peace Association also criticizes this sponsorship: “I am very shocked. I never imagined that BVB would consider entering into a partnership with a defense company”. The German brand’s logo will be present from the Champions League final at Wembley on Saturday.
