Vitinha, the ball that weighs very heavy

The most expensive recruit in the history of OM did not manage to increase his rating after his loan to Genoa.

A year after his signing at Olympique de Marseille, from Braga, Vitinha was loaned to Genoa by the Marseille club, with a purchase option amounting to 25 million euros. Unfortunately for him, the Portuguese striker did not manage to relaunch in the Italian championship.

A priori, the 24-year-old center forward could still continue his adventure in Serie A. “After a loan in January and an inglorious performance (2 goals in 9 games), Genoa will not exercise the €25M purchase option. According to our information, the Italian club wishes to extend its loan with a purchase option renegotiated downwards (€15M). The player does not wish to return to Marseille for the moment”announced journalist Sébastien Vidal on his X account.

Vitinha, the famine continues

The chances of seeing Genoa exercise the purchase option are almost non-existent. “OM could no longer support Vitinha given his level. But putting a purchase option at 25 million euros means nothing. It would have been the same if it had been a dry loan. It’s just to not lose their face that they put this option, to say “oh there is still a club which puts an option for 25 million, we didn’t get robbed by buying it for 32 million “. While it was ridiculous to buy this player for this amount”explained last February a specialist in the Italian market, cited by 20 minutes.

Recruited for 32 million euros (bonus included), Vitinha is the most expensive recruit in the history of OM. In 43 matches played under the colors of the Marseille club, the Lusitanian striker has only found the net six times.
