Jean-Pierre Papin, the former Bayern striker, spoke about the appointment of Vincent Kompany on the bench of the Bavarian team.
Jean-Pierre Papin, Bayern Munich striker between 1994 and 1996, supports the appointment of Vincent Kompany as new coach.
The Burnley manager is expected to be confirmed as Bayern’s new coach this week, replacing Thomas Tuchel. A surprising choice to say the least, and which comes after ten refusals received by the German giant.
Papin supports Kompany’s choice
Papin, now advisor to Olympique de Marseille, spoke on the subject in an interview with Ouest-France : “What if I’m surprised? Nothing is done by chance at Bayern. They want to start a new cycle.”
The 1991 Ballon d’Or winner also believes that Kompany is the right technician to help young people progress. “They are going to let experienced players leave and relaunch with a new, younger coach and a new squad. Kompany has already proven that he has the shoulders. I validate this choice.”
As a reminder, this season, Bayern finished the year without a single trophy won for the first time since 2013. It is up to Kompany to ensure that this anomaly is not repeated two years in a row.
