OM, hard blow made official

In the race for promotion to D1 Arkema, the players of Olympique de Marseille narrowly failed this Sunday, despite an ultimately useless success against Rodez (5-0).

Cruel fate for Olympique de Marseille. If the Marseille kids managed to win Saturday evening in the final of the Gambardella Cup against Nancy (4-1), the players of the team playing in women’s D2 for their part missed their objective. While the rise in D1 Arkema held out their arms to them, Franck Borrelli’s daughters largely won at home against Rodez (5-0), but the simultaneous victory of Nantes against Albi-Marssac (2-0), the sentenced to stay in D2.

To hope to secure second place in the ranking, the last sesame to obtain since the leader, Strasbourg, was uncatchable and already assured of the climb, the Marseillaises had to both win and count on a misstep from the Nantaises. Beaten twice against the latter during direct confrontations, the Phocaeans knew that it would be very difficult for them to get ahead of them.

Double from Diop

And this is therefore the cruelest scenario that unfolded for OM. However, the third in D2 crushed the Ruthénoises, notably with a double from Mama Diop. But all this was not enough and we will therefore have to leave in a few weeks for a new season in the second division, a championship in which Marseille has been playing since 2020.

This season, Olympique de Marseille has recorded thirteen victories for five draws and four defeats in the league, exactly the same statistics as Nantes which therefore snatches second place. The Phocaeans will try to do better next season.
