Former England international Jamie Carragher has made a bold comparison between a current Three Lions star and Zinedine Zidane.
England are among the favorites to win Euro 2024 and Jamie Carragher believes the hype is justified. With a squad featuring Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham and Manchester City player Phil Foden, England are very well equipped in midfield ahead of the tournament kicking off next month.
Bellingham is certain to be named La Liga player of the season, having scored 19 league goals in his debut campaign in Spain.
Foden compared to Zidane
The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has been compared to now-coveted manager Zidane in recent months, but Carragher believes Foden is the closest to the former France strategist.
“Jude Bellingham arrives at the Euro as one of the best players in the world, a possible Ballon d’Or”, saccording to his column in the Daily Telegraph. “ Bellingham is a phenomenon, but for me Foden is the most naturally talented footballer in England. I’m not sure England have ever had a player like Foden. »
“The biggest praise I can give is that when I look at Foden and see his first touch, his control and his ball movement in tight spaces, the first players that come to mind are Zidane and Iniesta.
