At the end of a lively and very pleasant final, PSG defeated OL and won their 15th Coupe de France (2-1).
After a three-year wait, PSG returned to the Coupe de France coronation. Already winners of the championship this season, the Ile-de-France club got their hands on their favorite trophy by getting the better of OL. A victory by the smallest of margins (2-1).
At the Stade Pierre Mauroy, the Ile-de-France residents first flew over the debates. The first period was totally in their favor and the score of 2-0 was not expensive enough given the control imposed. But the situation changed after the break with a magnificent start from Les Gones. By reducing the score, they offered themselves hope. Paris still held on afterwards to be able to snatch the 15e Coupe de France in its history.
OL long out of action against PSG
It was Ousmane Dembélé who gave the Parisians the advantage in this part. At the 22e minute, he took advantage of a completely missed exit from Lucas Perri to place a victorious header. For the Brazilian goalkeeper, preferred to Anthony Lopes at kick-off, it was the only false note of the evening and it had serious consequences.
Lacazette and OL must regret having only played half against PSG.
The Parisian break intervened at 34e with a two-step cover from Fabian Ruiz. The Lyonnais were then two goals behind and they were in total agony. The half-time bill could have been heavier for PSG if the Lyon goalkeeper had not stopped Barcola’s attempts (4e) and Zaire-Emery (5e).
Perri and Donnarumma have multiplied the parades
The Perri show continued after returning from the locker room. The Brazilian kept his troops in the match by successively frustrating Zaire-Emery (51e), Hakimi (61e) and Dembélé (66e). And in the meantime, Jake O’Brien managed to reignite the suspense by signing a superb helmet strike when receiving a corner (55e). And he almost handed it over to the 77e. Nicolas Tagliafico was also close to exploiting the largesse on set pieces (64e). Gianluigi Donnarumma then made the reflex save on his line.
A save from the Italian which weighed heavily at the final whistle. Despite this complicated second half, Paris managed to beat Lyon for the third time this season. A consecration which allows Kylian Mbappé to leave France with a final trophy collected. This is all we will remember from his evening, given that he was once again very discreet.
