Jérôme Rothen felt that Jean-Louis Gasset did not have the shoulders to take on the role of coach of Olympique de Marseille.

Jean-Louis Gasset ended his interim period on the bench of Olympique de Marseille with a record of 13 wins, 11 draws and 10 defeats. In addition to these results, OM sadly ranks 8th in Ligue 1.

A brief experience for the French coach who arrived on Canebière last February. But also very unconvincing, especially for Jérôme Rothen. The former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder and consultant for RMC did not mince his words with regard to the former Ivory Coast coach.

“It was a little too high for Gasset”

“Jean-Louis Gasset, in terms of results, contributed nothing. They were in the same line as the coaches before, estimated the 2004 European vice-champion. And again, Marcelino had done better before he left. I was skeptical about Gasset, the only thing he was able to bring was in the first weeks. The club was very bad when he arrived, it must be admitted that the mission was complicated. »

For Rothen, JLG is much better as a deputy:“I was told so many times that he was a leader of men, that I minimized his coaching career and that I was just content with his role as an assistant. Nonetheless, Gasset was a failure when he was number 1. But he was a success as an assistant. OM was a little too high for Gasset. »
