Emmanuel Macron was obviously not short of ideas to try to convince Real Madrid to leave Kylian Mbappé available to the French team for the Olympic Games.
Emmanuel Macron has tried almost everything to try to influence the position of Real Madrid. During a lunch organized at the Elysée on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Fifa, the head of state worked to convince Florentino Perez, the president of the Merengue club, to let go of Kylian Mbappé for the Olympic Games of Paris 2024. Efforts which were not to everyone’s taste as evidenced by the reaction of Daniel Riolo.
“Honestly, I can’t take it anymore. This story around Mbappé is becoming absolutely ridiculous, he railed at the microphone of RMC. How does a President of the Republic go to Perez and say: ‘Hey, we have to let him go’? And then what? As Perez has a construction company, are we going to promise him a deal so that Mbappé is in the Olympic team? After a while, you don’t care anymore. Thierry Henry will make his France team with other players. »
Kylian Mbappé must make up his mind
And according to Marca, Emmanuel Macron had no shortage of arguments to try to convince his interlocutor. The President of the Republic notably asked Florentino Perez if Real’s position could change in the event of premature elimination at Euro 2024. In which case, Kylian Mbappé would be less affected and could, according to him, continue with the Olympic Games without being requested beyond measure.
But Emmanuel Macron’s efforts remained in vain. According to the Spanish press, if L’Equipe wrote this Wednesday that Florentino Perez had “ajar the door”,he Spanish champions would have no intention of letting their (future) star striker leave for the Olympic Games. For the Madrid giant, the risk of injury would be too great after such a summer.
