Like other big European teams, Bayern Munich is looking for a new tenant for its sidelines. The Bavarians, who have known for several weeks that Thomas Tuchel will not continue the adventure, have discussed with a number of coaches recently, but all have said no for different reasons. Ralf Rangnick thus preferred to continue with the Austrian selection, while Sebastian Hoeneß does not wish to leave Stuttgart. There was even talk of Zinedine Zidane, who also said no.
Clearly, Bayern was in real trouble and facing big doubts. If we use the past tense, it is because it seems that the solution has been found. As indicated by various Germans including Bild, the Bavarians have reached a verbal agreement with a coach: Vincent Kompany. The 38-year-old former Belgian central defender therefore has a strong chance of becoming the new coach of the German giant.
From D2 to Bayern
The takeover of the Belgian tactician, under contract until 2028 at Burnley, could even be made official at the end of the week, again according to the German media. Bayern must still reach an agreement with the English club, which will be relegated to the Championship after finishing in nineteenth position in the Premier League standings this season.
Winner of the English D2 in 2022/2023 at the end of an exceptional season, Kompany and Burnley are therefore in the elevator, but the Belgian’s rating has remained intact, he who was also announced as a candidate for the position of coach of Chelsea. A choice which still remains surprising and which risks getting people talking in Munich, where many fans were surely expecting a more experienced coach to take over from Thomas Tuchel.
