This is management that raises questions. In recent months, FC Barcelona has stood out for its rather astonishing instability behind the scenes. And one file illustrates this perfectly: that of Xavi Hernandez. Last January, the current Barça coach announced his departure at the end of the current season. While his contract ended in 2025, he explained that he was reaching the end of his adventure and wanted to hand over to someone else. A decision accepted by its management. But now, after this announcement, FC Barcelona had a string of good results and management began to want to change the mind of the former Barcelona captain.
And if Xavi seemed to remain in his position, he finally changed his mind a few weeks ago to the delight of his management who did not seem to find an interesting coach to take over. We therefore thought the coach’s file was closed after this turnaround. And yet… While he was going to return for another year, Xavi’s destiny changed again a few days ago. Its president Joan Laporta decided to part ways after disagreements on several points including the speech given by Xavi publicly which explains that the club has no financial means. Yet another turn of events which makes the climate around the club quite heavy.
Surprise departures?
This Wednesday, Mundo Deportivo also made revelations about the situation at FC Barcelona. The Catalan daily explains that the vagueness around the coach will cause major difficulties in the transfer window while Barça must seriously strengthen itself. Worse still, Xavi’s departure will shake up several very important issues which depended on him. In terms of arrivals, a departure of the technician should compromise the possible arrival of Joshua Kimmich. The German midfielder spoke with Xavi and really liked the speech given by the Spanish coach. Another Barça priority, Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad, could also be an abandoned file. Offensively, it is also the Xavi Simons file, who wishes to return to Barça, which could be turned upside down, or that of Nico Williams, priority of the current coach.
The hasty end of Xavi will also have repercussions on whether or not he leaves the club. Still according to the indiscretions of MD, the future of Ter Stegen could be discussed. The latter has offers from Saudi Arabia and the departure of his coach could make him think. Same thing for Joao Cancelo who got along very well with the Spanish technician. For its part, management could decide to part ways with Frenkie De Jong or even Raphinha, two important players for the current coach. Conversely, Xavi’s departure could impact the future of Joao Felix (who did not have his confidence) or even Ronald Araujo, who recently had disagreements with him. In short, Barça’s situation is completely unclear and therefore difficult to work on restructuring the club in these conditions.
