Olympique Lyonnais had a fantastic second half of the season. While the Rhone club was last in Ligue 1 last December, it finished in sixth place in the championship, securing a place in the Europa League. Daniel Riolo praised the work carried out by Pierre Sage.
“They took a guy that no one knew and that I had called the PE teacher, they moved up the rankings, they found themselves in the European Cup… They had a transfer window which was still interesting. Not all the recruits were extraordinary but it allowed a new impetus in the locker room, a competition, an awakening of the squad. It’s also due to the role of this coach that no one knew, except the geniuses”declared the sports journalist on the airwaves of RMC.
Pierre Sage, a new era begins
From now on, the 45-year-old technician will be expected around the corner. “It is now that his new life will begin with a transfer window, permanent exchanges with his management, the desire on his part to assert himself as a real coach. Recruited by OL to coach young people from 2019 to 2022, Pierre Sage became interim coach of the first team to replace Fabio Grosso on November 30. In the return phase of the 2023-2024 season, the Rhone club finishes on the first step of the podium.
