For this grand finale of the season, the traditional multiplex of the 38th day of the Premier League still had surprises in store. If the race for the Champions League is completed with the qualifications of Liverpool (3rd) and Aston Villa (4th), that of the title was still in progress with a distant duel between Manchester City and Arsenal. The Skyblues, who were hosting a West Ham team (9th) which had nothing left to play, quickly took the lead thanks to two very good goals from Foden at the start of the match (2-0, 2nd and 19th).
Guardiola’s men then scared themselves with the reduction of the score from Kudus (2-1, 40th), but Rodri ensured the victory in the second half (3-1, 59th) and therefore offers a tenth title to the Etihad Stadium. In the other match for the title, the Gunners, deprived of Saka, had to ensure against Everton to hope for something, but missed their start to the match by conceding a very good goal from Gueye (1-0, 40th), even if Tomiyasu equalized straight away (1-1, 43rd). Before Havertz secured an anecdotal victory (2-1, 90th) and a little frustrating for the last one at the Emirates Stadium in front of their home crowd, since they were already assured of being second.
Hat-trick for Mateta, Luton relegated
Another important result, Chelsea’s victory against Bournemouth (12th). Thanks to a midfield lob from Caicedo and Sterling, the Blues won and secured a sixth qualifying place for the Europa Conference League, still unhoped for a few weeks ago. In front of them, Tottenham (5th), victorious at Sheffield United (20th), will go to the Europa League. Newcastle United (7th), solid winner at Bournemouth (12th), and 7th, can hope for a place in Europe in the event of Manchester City’s victory in the FA Cup final.
In the other results of this last day, we will note the officialization of the descent of Luton Town (17th) in the Championship, after its defeat against Fulham (2-4). As well as the anecdotal victory of Manchester United (8th) against Brighton (11th), who will have to hope for a victory in the FA Cup final against Manchester City to obtain a last European place. We can also mention Mateta’s very nice hat-trick against Aston Villa (4th), for a superb victory for Crystal Palace (5-0). Finally, for his last on the Liverpool bench and in front of his audience, Jürgen Klopp (3rd) quietly won against Wolves (14th).
