Thiago Alcantara and Liverpool, it’s over. The Spanish midfielder, at the end of his contract in a few weeks, will not extend his contract. The club has just announced the end of their collaboration which began in 2020. While he arrived at the top of his form with a Champions League title in his pocket with Bayern Munich, Thiago Alcantara experienced too many injuries which handicapped him in England.
With only five minutes played this season (against Arsenal), the Spaniard almost had a blank season (98 matches in 5 seasons with the Reds). At 33, the former Barça player can claim one last experience in Europe or Saudi Arabia, which pleases him. For their part, Liverpool will have to rely on their efficient midfielders this season. MacAllister, Endo, Szoboszlai and Bajčetić currently make up the Reds’ midfield, which will certainly need reinforcements. The Reds also announced the departure of a historic player in the person of Joel Matip. The central defender had been with the club since 2016.
