FC Barcelona wants to extend Pau Cubarsi, but faces obstacles in the negotiations.
Despite a complicated season for FC Barcelona, a ray of sunshine shines on the Masia side. The young central defender Pau Cubarsi, aged only 17, was able to do well and establish himself within the first team.
For his first professional season, the Gironese has already played 29 matches in all competitions. His solid and promising performances quickly attracted the attention of observers and rival clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain.
A disagreement over the release clause
Linked to Barça until June 2026, Cubarsi should see his contract extended in the coming weeks. According to information from Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana leaders plan to offer him a new lease for six additional years. The player would rather be in favor of a five-year contract.
The main sticking point in the negotiations concerns the release clause. Barça wants to set an amount of one billion euros, while the player’s entourage believes that a clause of 400 million euros would be more reasonable.
Despite these disagreements, both sides appear determined to find common ground. If the negotiations are successful, Cubarsi should become one of the pillars of Barcelona’s defense for years to come.
