Paris Saint-Germain is officially crowned champion of France after today’s results in Ligue 1. A new accomplishment in a season that could become historic.

In the recent era of Ligue 1, it’s a train that arrives on time, but at the rate things are going, we will perhaps remember this Luis Enrique version of PSG as a TGV that has everything overturned in its path. Because this 2023-24 campaign, Year I of the Spanish technician, long perceived as a season of transition, could shift into another dimension.

The day after New Year’s Day was a good omen, with the winning of the Champions Trophy against Toulouse. Water has flowed under the bridges since then, and Paris has not conceded a single setback on the national scene, in almost 5 months of competitions. This series of invincibility, imperfect but remarkable, allowed the reigning champion to maintain his property. And it is logical that the Parisians were crowned champions of France, less than a month before the curtain was drawn.

Absolute domination for a PSG sure of its strengths

The draw against Le Havre (3-3) was not enough for the happiness of the Parisians a few days before another epic meeting against Borussia Dortmund, but OL, who Paris will meet again in the Cup final, in some ways so finish the job by hanging on to Monaco this Sunday. Luis Enrique did not embarrass himself at the press conference. “We are already champions,” he said on Saturday evening. With this 12th title, PSG increases its lead over AS Saint-Etienne and Olympique de Marseille in the ranking of the most successful clubs in France.

This outcome above all rewards a club finally supported by a strong and coherent collective, based on total emulation. After a slow start on the accounting front, Kylian Mbappé and his teammates quickly found their cruising speed to prance at the top of the ranking. A first place that they never let go of, taking advantage of the regular hiccups of their pursuers. Best attack and second best defense, Paris can also boast of having the top scorer and the best passer in Ligue 1 in its ranks. If this absolute domination heralds a sparkling spring, the hardest part remains to be done. The sky is clear, but the big passes are reaching the horizon.
