The transfer of Hugo Ekitike brings big benefits to PSG

A little over a year ago, PSG thought they were doing a great deal by acquiring young Hugo Ekitike from Stade de Reims. The young striker, 19 years old at the time, was coming off a season of 28 matches for 11 goals. Very correct statistics for his first season in the elite of French football and which caught the eye of Luis Campos. The sports director of PSG paid 35 million euros to get it back. A significant investment all the same for a player who had to continue his progression and try to grab playing time with Mbappé, Messi and Neymar in his offensive sector.

But ultimately, this was never the case and the passage of Hugo Ekitike will never have borne fruit, on the contrary. After a disappointing first season where he only scored 4 small goals in 32 appearances, the French striker refused to leave this summer despite an offer from Frankfurt and a deal including the arrival in exchange for Randal Kolo Muani. As a result, he was excluded from the group (only 1 match in 6 months) and finally left Paris this winter for the same Frankfurt on loan with an option to buy. And his Parisian adventure, at that moment, seemed definitely already over.

PSG will recover a nice sum

Since his departure for the Bundesliga, the native of Reims has not particularly succeeded in getting back on track. Last weekend, the man who was nicknamed “Mister Zero But” by the German press, finally opened his account with his new team. After 12 matches, and only 3 starts, he is still struggling to establish himself. But that doesn’t mean that the German club doesn’t trust him, on the contrary. This Friday, Frankfurt officially announced that it had exercised the option to buy its player. And this will bring a few million euros to PSG.

According to information from The Team, the amount of the purchase option is 16.5 million euros. A sum that will have to be added to the 3.5 million euros already spent by Frankfurt to obtain the loan of the French striker (paying loan). PSG always keeps 20% of any capital gain on the player. The capital club could also recover 4.5 million euros in additional bonuses, according to the French daily which nevertheless specifies that these bonuses are difficult to achieve. Enough to cushion the missed investment of last summer and allow PSG to have even more resources for the next summer transfer window.
