Zidane, it smells like the end…

Bayern Munich may have found their coach in Ralf Rangnick, the current coach of Austria. And so the Zinedine Zidane trail moves away.

The series is progressing. For about the third time, Bayern Munich has found who could be its next coach. After the refusals of Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann, who will remain at the head of Bayer Leverkusen and Germany, the Bavarian giant is now turning to Ralf Rangnick.

Once again, this is a technician already in post, and the Austrian federation confirmed on Wednesday that Bayern had contacted it to discuss the situation of its coach. It would be a big blow for Austria, because Rangnick does an excellent job with David Alaba and his teammates, future opponents of the Blues at the Euro.

Not yet done for Rangnick

It is therefore not yet done for Rangnick, because the technician must agree to let down Austria, which dreams of qualifying for the next World Cup (this would be a first since 1998). And the former architect of RB Leipzig is a coach who likes to have expanded prerogatives, to impose his vision of football in the game and in recruitment. It is therefore possible that he will not find an agreement with Bayern on how to operate.

In the meantime, these avenues explored by Bayern make it increasingly unlikely that Zinedine Zidane will arrive in Germany. We know that the former playmaker of the France team was probed, through his entourage, but it is difficult to know to what extent the contacts were advanced between “ZZ” and Bayern. The project was undoubtedly attractive, but the language barrier was perhaps a little too great an obstacle.
