As was predictable, Xavi will continue his mission as coach of FC Barcelona.
The story between Xavi and FC Barcelona is not over yet. While his departure seemed established since he announced his resignation last January, the Catalan technician will finally continue in his role. The decision was made to keep him and even extend his contract.
Xavi to sign new contract
At the end of a meeting held this Wednesday, Joan Laporta agreed to offer a new lease until 2026 to his coach. The latter could therefore leave his position in a year, and receive compensation. The information was disclosed by El Mundo Deportivo and the officialization should take place in the coming hours.
The fact that Xavi is staying isn’t really a surprise. He had the support of his management, but also of the players and his supporters. In addition, he managed to turn things around in terms of results. The Blaugrana had not lost before last week and their elimination in the Champions League against PSG.
As a reminder, Xavi arrived at Barcelona in January 2021, replacing Ronald Koeman. And he led the Catalan team to the national title last season.
