Coveted by Arsenal, Xavi Simons should be loaned again next season by PSG.

For several months, Simons has been the target of Mikel Arteta, the coach of the Gunners, but PSG have frustrated the hopes of the London team by exercising a buyout clause in the versatile striker’s contract with PSV. He was then loaned to RB Leipzig, where he had an excellent season, strengthening his reputation with seven goals and 12 assists in the Bundesliga.

Although Arsenal maintained an interest, he was expected to return to PSG at the end of the season to fill the void left by the departure of Kylian Mbappé, who will sign for Real Madrid at the end of his contract. But it seems there has been a sudden change in plans.

Still on loan?

This is what Sport Bild reports: “ Internally, at RB Leipzig, we think there will be another year of loan. » This requires Simons’ current club to qualify for the Champions League, which seems extremely likely, with the club likely to secure a fifth place in the Bundesliga.

Coach Marco Rose has also alluded to this possibility. In an interview with Sky Sport Deutschland, he said: “ He would also be a very important player for me next year. We do not have total control of the situation. The important thing is to qualify for the Champions League. Then, we want to direct the discussions in the direction of an extension of a year or two. Xavi gives the impression that he feels good here, that he is developing well and that overall it is a good environment for him. Therefore, I remain very optimistic about his presence among us next year.”
