The Marseille management spent lavishly during the previous season. Today, she is suffering the consequences.

This is a report which should definitely put an end to the idea that Pablo Longoria is doing very good business in Marseille. This is not the case, and as local fans suspected, the spending is sometimes excessive.

According to information revealed by Insider Romain Molina, the Marseille club paid 19 million euros in agent fees for the 2022/2023 season alone. And it’s almost double compared to the campaign before (10 million).

Longoria is not responsible for everything at OM

The numerous transfers made over the period in question may explain these significant costs. And they were not cushioned by a presence in the Champions League. The club was counting on participation in the group stage of the premier event, but it was eliminated in the preliminary round. The good progress made since then in the Europa League still allows us to avoid a real economic collapse.

The other reason why Marseille finds itself in the red financially is because its owner Frank McCourt no longer puts too much money into the club. This choice forced management to increase the number of deals on the transfer market, in the hope of achieving maximum capital gains. A plan which does not always work and which clearly regularly leads to failures.
