Thanks to its success at home on Wednesday evening against Lille (1-0, late match of the 29th day), Monaco delayed the coronation promised to PSG in Ligue 1.

At the start of the evening, Paris Saint-Germain had done the job. An easy winner in Lorient (1-4), the capital club has been waiting for the result of the clash between Monaco and Lille played on Wednesday evening at the Louis II stadium. To be crowned champion of France today for the twelfth time in its history, Paris had to count on a defeat for ASM against the Mastiffs. This was not the case as Adi Hütter’s men did what was necessary to win by the smallest of margins (1-0, 29th day).

During this late match in the championship, Monaco especially had the opportunity to make a gap on its direct pursuers in the race for second place. Its success against Lille therefore allowed it to distance itself from the Northerners, now on six points, but also and above all with Brest (3rd), relegated to five units with four days remaining. If the positions can still be reversed, the Rock players have still taken a big advantage.

Fofana, sole scorer

Although there was only one goal during the game, the spectacle was still there. Very committed and rich in opportunities, the first half set the tone and all this continued in the second half. Lille, for example, found the post three minutes after returning from the locker room on a header from Gudmundsson (48th). And then at the hour mark, it was Fofana who broke the deadlock in favor of the Monegasques, the midfielder unleashing a heavy shot from twenty meters, too difficult for Chevalier to catch (1-0, 61st).

Third goal in Ligue 1 this season for the French international, enough to give AS Monaco victory. In the standings, the Principality club is more than ever runner-up, eleven points behind PSG and five ahead of Brest. As for Lille, it remains fourth and remains one point from third place, while its first pursuer (Nice) is three points behind. On Sunday, Monaco will travel to Lyon while Losc will go to Metz.
