Winner of LOSC at home, AS Monaco postponed the consecration of PSG and took a step towards the Champions League.
AS Monaco consolidated its second place in the Ligue 1 standings by dominating LOSC at home (1-0). A victory which also forces PSG to wait a few more days before celebrating their title of champion of France. The Ile-de-France residents thought they would be crowned this Wednesday evening after their big victory in Lorient (4-1).
Fofana strikes again
The princely team had to win during this opposition to Louis II against a competitor for the C1. The mission was accomplished thanks to Youssouf Fofana. The French international scored the decisive goal at the hour mark (61e) with an unstoppable strike from the left at the edge of the area. He had done everything on this action, since he had recovered the ball from the feet of a Nice player. It’s already his 3e goal this season. Not bad for a defensive midfielder.
Monegasque success is not stolen. The ASM which proved to be the most dangerous in this meeting. In 1e period, the Japanese Minamino had already been close to opening the score. And after the opening score, they could have doubled the lead on several occasions but success eluded them.
The C1 is getting closer for Monaco
On the Nice side, there will not be many regrets, except perhaps for a potential penalty not called in the first period following a contentious contact between Minamino and Tiago Santos. Paulo Fonseca, the coach of the Mastiffs, admitted at the end of the match: “As for the penalty, I don’t know. It’s difficult to judge. Concerning our match, we perhaps made a lot of errors technically. Maybe because we’re a little tired.”
From now on, Monaco is six points ahead of fourth place, the one occupied by its opponent of the day. For Adi Huttler’s team, direct qualification for the next Champions League looks good. “It’s not done yet. The most important thing is to secure this place as quickly as possible. We must not rest on our laurels”warned Fofana on Amazon Prime.
