Olympique de Marseille are reportedly on the verge of selling an international player who had become the darling of the Vélodrome.
Over the years, he had become a symbol of Olympique de Marseille, before packing his bags for the first time last summer, after being downgraded in the hierarchy of midfielders. Mattéo Guendouzi, who today wears the colors of Lazio Rome, should no longer return to OM.
The French international still belongs to the Marseille club on a contractual level since he was the subject of a loan during the last summer transfer window. But according to several Italian sources, Guendouzi should definitely join Lazio.
Guendouzi, it’s almost over
A call option had been negotiated in this operation. Two conditions had been suggested to lift it, but only one would be enough to definitively validate the sale. The first concerned the sporting performances of Lazio Rome, which should finish this 2023-24 season in the top 10 of Serie A. Currently seventh, the capital club should fulfill this objective, barring an unlikely relaxation.
The second, a little more hypothetical, would be a coronation for Lazio in the Italian Cup. A more difficult mission for the Biancocelesti, who lost 2-0 in the semi-final first leg against Juventus. In total, however, OM could receive a nice jackpot of 18 million euros (including 5 million bonuses) in the event of the sale of Guendouzi to Lazio.
