The great bloodletting continues in the offices of Manchester United. Since the takeover of INEOS from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, several changes have been made internally, including the appointment of Omar Berrada, formerly of Manchester City, to the position of CEO. This time, it’s John Murtough whose departure at the end of the season was announced this Tuesday: “John Murtough is to step down as Manchester United director of football and leave the club, after almost 11 years in various roles at Carrington”it is written in the official press release from the Mancunian club.

“After 11 years of tireless work for the club, John agreed with us that the time was right to step aside and allow the new football management structure to be put in place. “He will always be welcome at Manchester United as a friend of the club.”said Joel Glazer, co-chairman of Manchester United, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe said: “We would like to thank John for his loyal service over many years, and for his support and integrity during this period of transition. He leaves with our best wishes for the future”
