Alternating the good and the less good in recent weeks, Girona had the opportunity to find color against Cádiz after last week’s defeat against AtlĂ©tico de Madrid. The Catalans, currently third in La Liga, started the match in thunderous fashion. Eric Garcia opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a set piece, followed by Ivan Martin who doubled the lead in the 22nd minute thanks to a well-executed triangle play. After managing the match, Girona accelerated again at the end of the match.

Artem Dovbyk scored his team’s third goal with a superb curling shot in the 71st minute, confirming his great form with his fourth goal in the last three matches. Despite Cádiz narrowing the gap in the 81st minute, Girona’s attacks persisted. Portu finally sealed the resounding victory of the surprise team of this La Liga season in the 82nd minute (4-1). Thanks to this success, the Catalan club consolidates its third place in the standings, seven points ahead of AtlĂ©tico de Madrid and will officially play in a European Cup next season (C1 or C3). They also return to two small units from their neighbors FC Barcelona. On the other hand, the situation for Cádiz looks complicated: ranked 18th, the Andalusians are now six points behind Celta Vigo, 17th.
