Bad operation for AS Roma

Beaten at home by Bologna on Monday evening (1-3), AS Roma missed a great opportunity to consolidate their qualifying place for the Champions League.

Before the top-of-the-table clash between the enemy Milanese brothers (8:45 p.m.), this Monday offered an opposition between AS Roma and Bologna. Respectively fourth and fifth in the Serie A standings before kick-off, both teams knew that the result would have an impact for the rest and end of the race for qualifying places for the Champions League. Bologna won and widened the gap on their victim of the day (1-3, 33rd day of Serie A).

Everything settled quite quickly since even before the end of the first quarter of an hour of play, Oussama El Azzouzi opened the scoring for the visitors (0-1, 14th). Following a series of yellow cards during the first act (four), the Romans failed to get on target once and were punished again just before returning from the locker room on a goal from Joshua Zirkzee (0-2, 45th) .

It’s pressing behind

Perfect blow for Thiago Motta’s men who nevertheless saw their opponents reduce the gap thanks to Sardar Azmoun (1-2, 56th), but who did not panic and reacted very quickly by regaining a lead of two goals, when Alexis Saelemaekers found the net (1-3, 65th). Nothing more will be scored despite a better second half for AS Roma.

This defeat is therefore a bad operation for La Louve who, instead of coming back to one point behind Bologna if they had won, now finds themselves seven points behind, with one game in hand however. The problem for Roma is that they remain within reach of Atalanta who are only one point behind. The Champions League is still far from being won for the Romans, five days before the end of the championship.
