Olympique de Marseille are targeting a Ligue 1 coach to succeed Jean-Louis Gasset this summer.

Arriving last February to act as interim manager, the French technician will leave the club at the end of the current season. According to information from 10 Sports, Pablo Longoria has already targeted his replacement: Paulo Fonseca. According to our colleagues, the Olympian leader has made the Portuguese his priority for the coaching position next season.

Fonseca, currently under contract with Lille, will be free to join the club of his choice this summer. Discussions have already been underway between the two parties since the end of 2023.

Fonseca wants to wait until the end of the season

The former AS Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk coach nevertheless wants to wait until the end of the 2023-24 season before making a decision regarding his future. A cautious position which can be explained by the sporting situation of LOSC, which currently occupies 4th place in Ligue 1 and is fighting for qualification in the Champions League.

OM, for its part, is struggling to find its place. Currently 9th in the ranking, five lengths from qualifying for the Europa League, the Marseille club may not be as attractive a destination as Lille.
