The successful performance on Tuesday evening by PSG in Barcelona to qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League is a great first for the Parisian club.

The crazy evening that Paris Saint-Germain experienced this Tuesday near Montjuïc will forever remain in the annals of the capital club. After being beaten on home soil a week earlier (2-3), Luis Enrique's team overthrew FC Barcelona to qualify handily for the semi-finals of the Champions League. If this is not the first time that PSG has reached this stage of the competition, the manner is however unprecedented for them.

Never in its history has PSG managed to reverse such a situation. He had never knocked down an opponent in a return match when the score of the first leg, at home, was unfavorable to him. Tuesday evening in Catalonia, however, things got off to a bad start since Barça opened the scoring on their very first real opportunity. But the red card quickly collected by Ronald Araujo (29th), combined with the Parisian domination displayed from the start of the match despite the goal conceded, ended up turning the match on its head.

Several reversals of situation

In the end, Paris won 1-4 and therefore validated its ticket for the last four of the C1. In its history, PSG had already managed to turn around poorly started situations in European Cups, but each time, the return match was played at the Parc de Princes. This was for example the case in 1993, when the Parisian club achieved one of the greatest feats in its history against Real Madrid, in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup 92-93. Beaten 1-3 in the first leg, PSG won 4-1 at home on the return leg, thanks in particular to Antoine Kombouaré's headed goal.

Paris will achieve other turnarounds, twice in 1996, in the round of 16 and in the quarter-finals of the Cup of Cups, respectively against Galatasaray and Parma, before winning the competition. Then recently in 2020 against Borussia Dortmund, in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
