This season, Andriy Lunin has definitely established himself at Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old has struggled to establish himself since his arrival in 2018 – he was Thibaut Courtois' understudy in recent seasons, but with the Belgian missing the entirety of the current campaign, he has made his authority known .

Lunin has become the undisputed number one since December. Arriving last summer to replace Courtois, Kepa Arrizabalaga was reduced to the bench for several months, with Lunin playing at a very high level.

Lunin left to leave?

Despite his status as a starting goalkeeper, Lunin's future at Real Madrid is uncertain. His contract ends in 2025 and recent reports have suggested he could look to join another club this summer, given he is not guaranteed to play regularly next season with Courtois returning. However, Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Real Madrid are closing in on a renewal deal with Lunin.

This is excellent news for Real if they manage to secure the services of Lunin. He is certainly capable of ousting Courtois permanently, as he did with Kepa earlier this season. More than anything, he can be the Belgian's long-term successor.
