With the announced departure of Kylian Mbappé, will Paris Saint-Germain want to compensate for the loss of its top scorer by recruiting heavyweights? Or will he rely on the many offensive elements he has at his disposal (Gonçalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani, Kang-in Lee, Marco Asensio, Ousmane Dembélé and perhaps Xavi Simons next season)? To believe In Bola, the first option holds the rope. The Portuguese daily headlines on its front page that “PSG enters the race for Gyökeres”.

Current top scorer in La Liga Betclic with 22 goals scored in 24 league matches, the Swedish international (20 caps, 6 goals) is one of the revelations of this 2023/2024 season. Recruited last summer by Sporting Portugal in exchange for €20 million, the former Coventry resident is already the assurance for the Lisbon residents of hitting the jackpot in the event of his departure next summer. Author of the best season of his career (36 goals, 14 assists in 39 matches with the SCP), the Scandinavian blossomed at just 25 years old, but he has several heavyweights on the European scene at his feet. Chelsea would even be in pole position in this matter.

Paris loves the talents of La Liga Betclic

Recently asked about his future, Gyökeres kicked in. “It’s impossible to say now (if I’m going to stay at Sporting CP) but everything is going well and I’m happy. I'm here, and we have important games to play. My concern is here. There's a lot of chatter on social media and other sites, but that doesn't concern me. I do not think about it. I’m here right now, and focused 100% on this club.” Despite everything, there is a very good chance that Sporting will not be able to retain their striker, especially if a good offer arises.

Seeing PSG take a close interest in this profile is in any case not surprising. Gyökeres is one of the fashionable attackers in Europe and Paris has demonstrated in the past that it knows how to break the bank to recruit the best elements of the Portuguese championship. Vitinha (€41.5m) and Danilo Pereira (€16m) were bought from FC Porto, while Gonçalo Ramos brought in more than €60m to Benfica. But Sporting Portugal also likes to do business with the Rouge et Bleu. This is demonstrated by the juicy sales of Manuel Ugarte (€60 million) and Nuno Mendes (€38 million + a paying loan of €7 million). Also interested in João Neves (Benfica), will PSG once again sign a big check for a talent from La Liga Betclic? As a reminder, Gyökeres has a release clause of €100 million.
