The absence of Antoine Griezmann was detrimental to Didier Deschamps' team, which lost 2-0 to Germany in a friendly match.
In an eye-catching match in Lyon, Euro 2024 favorites France were put to the test by a reinvigorated German side, bolstered by the return of Toni Kroos. The Blues lacked their usual fluidity in attack with the absence of Griezmann due to injury.
Griezmann was forced to withdraw from Deschamps' squad due to an ankle injury which ended his run of 84 consecutive matches for the France team. Deschamps was asked about the absence of the Colchoneros star at half-time and the former midfielder reiterated the importance of the veteran.
Griezmann stays in Madrid
The former midfielder recalled the importance of the veteran: “ I didn't need this match to know the importance of Antoine, but if he had been there it would have been a difficult match“, reports Mundo Deportivo. “He's a vital part of the team, but we've been missing a lot of things, which makes things difficult at the highest level.”
The French team will close their current international period with a match against Chile on March 26, but Griezmann will remain in Madrid to continue his rehabilitation program.
