Nothing is going well in the Premier League, where two of the most imposing representatives are under threat of expulsion.
The El Dorado of football, for the density of competition and the total football that can be played there, the Premier League is undoubtedly the benchmark for European championships today, ahead of La Liga which has long held the lead. Yes, but the English football landscape could be turned upside down very soon, with the expulsion of two behemoths clearly planned.
This season, British football authorities no longer hesitate to take action. This is evidenced by the heavy sanctions recently imposed on Everton (six penalty points compared to 10 at first instance) and Nottingham Forest (four penalty points) for breaches of financial rules. Sentences which are nothing compared to what Manchester City and Chelsea risk.
A season of reprieve and then gone?
According to the Sun, the Cityzens, reigning English champion and Champions League holders, could be deprived of a license to officiate in the Premier League. At issue are the famous 115 violations of the financial code noted for a long time and which must be the subject of an in-depth examination this fall in the light of the appeals filed by the Skyblues.
Same thing for Chelsea, which must answer for embezzlements carried out under the leadership of its former owner, the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. The Blues are accused of having used secret accounts to pay agents and thus reduce their taxes. If the courts were to confirm these alleged offenses, then the two clubs concerned would simply be excluded from the Premier League – a possible judgment which has already been notified to them and which could fall in the summer of 2025, reports the tabloid in question.
