Fluminense are hoping to sign Thiago Silva this summer, as the Brazilian veteran's contract from Chelsea expires at the end of the current season.

The 39-year-old central defender, who has just a few months left on his contract with the Blues, could return to Brazil this summer as his former club Fluminense have expressed interest. Silva is said to be in contact with the Brazilian giants and speaks with the club president “every week”.

Fluminense sporting director Fred told ESPN Brasil: “Thiago Silva has been a dream of ours for a long time, the president speaks to him almost every week. Thiago has a contract in England, we encourage him, I am personally a friend of his and I am a big fan of his character, and he deserves all the best. He knows that here the doors are wide open for him to come back. There is nothing (imminent). We have to be careful not to put pressure on Thiago. The fans love Thiago, we love Thiago and Thiago loves Fluminense. One day it's inevitable, it will happen, it's the player's wish, the club's wish and we hope it happens as soon as possible. »

The Brazilian international spent two and a half seasons with the Tricolores, from 2006 to 2009, before joining AC Milan, where he established himself. The Blues are actively looking for a new central defender and have been linked with a move for Lille youngster Leny Yoro. They also kept Ousmane Diomande (Sporting CP) and Jean-Clair Todibo (Nice) on their list of candidates.

The Brazilian defender, who has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season, will next be in action on March 30, when Chelsea face Burnley in the Premier League.
